Why I created The Humor Columnist

Why I launched The Humor Columnist website

There is a famous quote that goes, “Writing about music is like dancing about architecture.”

Forgive me while I dance about architecture for a moment.

I launched this site because I like written humor. I like writing words that make people laugh and laughing at the words people have written.

In what is easily the greatest travesty in journalism history, my humor writing has never had a proper home.

I wrote humor columns for Scripps-Howard News Service, for free. The wire service did not pay its columnists. I wrote humor columns for Brides local magazines, which paid but only comes out twice a year. I wrote humor columns on my personal website. True story: After four years the Google ads on my site netted me a grand total of $100. I tried writing a humor column while I was at a site called Made Man and my boss told me to stop. I would tell you why, but even he couldn’t. He just didn’t want it.

So I built this website to serve as a home for my humor writing.

While I was building The Humor Columnist I discovered that there is no comprehensive website dedicated to humor column writers. I decided to change that. This site links to humor columnists past and present and provides resources for aspiring humor writers.

And yes, that is a basement horse.
