Wow. This original Game of Thrones/House of Cards mashup “House of Thrones” actually manages to entertain AND sneak in the product placement that funded the whole endeavor. If you’ve watched as many bad sponsored videos as I have, you know that’s tough to do.
Much credit goes to director Oren Kaplan and actor Ross Marquand, both of whom are friends. (And my pal Kara Luiz makes a scene-stealing turn as Joffrey.) Obviously, these folks are talented, and I think they should be in every movie and on every TV show.
But I also–not to steal your thunder, Oren and Ross and Kara–think Quizno’s deserves some credit here. Not only did it pay for this very funny and very well-executed video, but it also had the patience not to put a Turkey Bacon Guacamole in the opening shot. The reveal that it’s an advertisement comes much later, after the viewer is totally invested. THIS IS HOW IT’S DONE, LARGE CORPORATIONS THAT WANT TO MAKE ONLINE CONTENT.
Sorry. I get a little emotional about product placement.
