Dave Barry is at the Olympics. No, not to compete in some sport he just made up, like skeet toilet shooting. Although that would be awesome.
He’s come out of semi-retirement to suffer the hardships of a free trip to Europe to cover the 2012 London Summer Olympics for the Miami Herald.
This, of course, is welcome news, because in a perfect world Barry would still be writing a weekly humor column where he explains things like the link between taxes and manure.
Barry already has filed his first Olympic column.
It begins:
“The Olympic Games.” Without question, these are the three most exciting words in all of sports, except for “nude Jell-O wrestling.” And that is why, for the next two weeks, millions of Americans will tune in to NBC to watch the greatest athletes from every part of the globe, except those parts of the globe that are located outside of the United States because NBC’s longstanding Olympic policy is to avoid, at all costs, exposing its viewers to foreign athletes.

He also has started Tweeting.
On the off chance that he reads this, more tweets, please, Dave. If I have to rely on Bob Costas for all of my Olympic commentary, I will hurl my television set off my balcony.
I will continue to update this post with the latest coverage.
